As the Lead Analyst for News Business Intelligence, you play a vital role in the company’s mission to offer insights into pertinent and captivating news content that fuels subscriptions and encourages retention. Collaborating closely with editorial and digital teams, along with the Marketing team, you will delve into audience engagement, content performance, and their impact on subscription retention. This person is someone who thrives on data, has a genuine passion for journalism, and envisions influencing the future of news media.
Responsibilities
Examination of Audience Engagement:
- Scrutinize reader engagement metrics to extract insights into content preferences and reader behavior, utilizing these findings for identifying pricing opportunities.
- Team up with news teams to pinpoint highly engaged audiences, ensuring continued delivery of the experiences they seek.
Tracking Content Performance:
- Identify and observe the performance of news articles, videos, and multimedia content across digital platforms. Regularly furnish reports and insights to news teams to steer content creation.
Interdepartmental Cooperation:
- Collaborate closely with news, digital, and marketing teams to synchronize data analytics with journalistic and business objectives.
- Foster collaborative efforts across divisions to gain a comprehensive understanding of various consumer segments throughout their lifecycle.
- Engage with IT and data engineering teams to guarantee data availability and precision.
Visualization of Data:
- Develop clear and visually compelling data visualizations and presentations to effectively communicate discoveries to both news and management teams.
Audience Segmentation:
- Collaborate with news and marketing teams to establish and refine audience segments for precise content delivery.
Analysis of User Experience:
- Analyze user experience data to secure a seamless and engaging digital news consumption experience.
- Propose enhancements to website and app interfaces based on the analysis of user behavior.
Oversight of Data:
- Ensure data quality, precision, and compliance with privacy regulations.
- Implement and uphold best practices for data governance.
Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of experience in analyzing news and media, delving into audience engagement, and/or digital media.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, bridging Marketing and a dynamic newsroom environment.
- Proficient in the use of data analysis tools and languages such as SQL, Python, and R.
- A robust understanding of trends in the news and media industry, coupled with familiarity with digital publishing platforms.
- Knowledge of data governance and privacy regulations is considered advantageous.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Pickaxe, Tableau, Power BI, and DOMO.
